There is More to Life!
By Rúna, 2005
I was looking at myself in my bathroom mirror one morning in the early nineties, while putting on my make-up and getting ready for work. To my horror, I saw a robot that I knew was not me, but I did know I spent a lot of time with this creature. "Who is this robot", I though, "and who am I?"
I was living every woman's dream, or at least the conventional dream of a family and living happily ever after. I had a loving husband, two small boys, and a house in a posh area in Reykjavík. And I had more. I had my dream job, being the founder and CEO of my company KLASSÍK, and I was blessed by working with great people, both in my native country, Iceland, as well as abroad. What more could a woman want?
But there was something missing. Something inside of me. I started to feel there had to be more to life than this perfect picture. I started to ask myself questions, but I didn't have the answers. I started to feel that my job wasnt really serving in the world in a way that had the deepest meaning to me. I realized I was at a turning point in my life and that I had to be the one to take action in order for there to be any changes. Something inside of me shifted, and my journey had taken on a new meaning.
In 1996 I found myself living in Santa Fe, New Mexico with the boys. My husband had died two years earlier, and I had sold the business. Shortly afterwards Brian Arthur introduced me to Sacred Passage and John Milton's work. Brian had already worked with John for several years and was fascinated by the experience, and by the concept of Nature as a Teacher. I knew instantly that I wanted to do a passage, but it took me another year to get the courage to do so. In spite of heavy rain and flooding on the sacred sites of Crestone, Colorado, in the fall of 1997, the magic of alone-time in Nature won me over and there was no turning back. I knew that Nature was going to be an integral part of my life in the future and indeed be my teacher.
Today I run my Santa Fe-based company, RÚNORA, LLC. The company's aim is to make a difference in the lives of individuals, groups, and organizations, and to help them explore and experience the interconnectedness of the outer world and our inner workings, to empower and strengthen their innate knowing and reach their fullest potential in purposeful ways, both personally as well as for their organizations. Part of my vision for RÚNORA came while still living in Iceland and was based on my own experience and what I saw around me. Other parts have come to me while out in Nature on solos and vision questing. I have gotten answers to many of my questions and the search continues.
My work with John has had a very deep impact on me and helped to bring me back home to myself. The robot is gone, and instead I am enjoying the company of someone that is more present and alive, more connected, and more open-hearted. Life is wondrous.
